Sunday Brunch: Blueberry Bread Pudding

This morning we had Blueberry Bread Pudding from my Cooking Light Annual Recipes 2009 cookbook.  This make-a-head recipe is made the night before and popped in the oven in the morning.  Quick, easy, delicious, and very elegant....it looked and tasted like I spent a lot more time on it than I did.

My favorite cookbooks and recipes can be found here.

Day Trip to Old Sacramento

Yesterday we spent the day in Old Sacramento checking out the California State Train Museum and the Sacramento River.

Straight out of Camera (SOOC) Sunday Challenge

I am adding this picture to the SOOC Challenge (straight out of camera) at Murrieta 365

I took this picture from the Tower Bridge parking garage in Old Sacramento.  The Sacramento River can be seen through the windows.

Photo Challenge: Lavender

Time for another challenge at Project 64: Out of the Box.  Each week a random crayon is chosen from a 64 count box of Crayola Crayons.  That color is used as inspiration for the week, the challenge is to find and photograph the weekly color in the world around us.

This weeks color is Lavender.  When I think of lavender I think of a light, dusty purple.  Crayola Crayon Lavender, the color inspiration, is more of a cool pink, maybe a pink with a hint of blue, or a very pinkish purple.  Either way I did not have a hard time finding this color.  Thanks to all the blooming flowers around here I found Crayola Lavender everywhere I went.

This is the picture I am submitting for this weeks challenge:

Here are some other lavender pictures I took recently:

This beautiful lavender bush is in my friend Susie's garden:

Lavender sunset and windmills near the Altamont Pass:

Magnolia trees are blooming and I never realized how many there were untill I started looking for this color:

I know you want a lavender Lexus.

Macro Friday: Susie's Lavender Blooms

This is a close-up shot of a lavender bloom in my friend Susie's front yard.
This is a beautiful plant, it blooms like crazy and I have admired it for years.

I am linking this photo to Macro Friday at Blogging From Bolivia.

Dinner Tonight: Roasted Vegetable and Rosemary Chicken Soup

Tonight's dinner was very good.  I made Roasted Vegetable and Rosemary Chicken Soup from Cooking Light Annual Recipes 2007.  Not only did this soup taste delicious, the vegetables roasting and the fresh rosemary made the house smell wonderful.

Wednesday's Dinner: Chipotle-Orange Chicken Cutlets and Skillet Onions, Peppers, and Garlic

Tonight I made Chipotle-Orange Chicken Cutlets and Skillet Onions, Peppers, and Garlic, both from my Cooking Light Annual Recipes 2007 cookbook.

I really liked the chicken but thought it was a lot of work.  Big Girl and Little Girl liked it, but not so much that they made 'mmmmmm' noises when eating or wanted seconds.  The boys had to be coaxed into eating theirs, but did eat it without too many complaints.  Mr. Coffee thought it was OK but this would not be on his list of dishes he would want me to make again.  The main turn-off to the family was the sauce, they thought the orange and chiptole flavors were a bit odd together.  I thought the sauce was delicious but I tend to be a fan of sauces, especially the odd & unusual ones. If I were to make this again I would cube and saute the chicken then add the sauce and skip the orange-juice and flour dredging entirely.

The peppers and onions were very tasty, but also very basic and probably something that does not require a recipe.  Sauteed peppers are not something I have thought of for a side dish and I will probably serve them again.

Photographic Scavenger Hunt

It's scavenger hunt time again at Ramblings and Photos.   Each week 5 items are listed and participants photograph their interpretations of the items. The items this week are Chocolate, Numbers, Canned Food, Music, and Stack.

Here are my items:

Chocolate....and an espresso!

Numbers
(Big Boy's 8th grade Algebra Book)

Canned Food
There is NO photographic creativity here.
This was taken at my local grocery store with my cell phone.  I am almost obsessed with this Whole Chicken in a Can, with giblets.  So obsessed that when I saw 'canned food' was a scavenger hunt item this chicken was the ONLY thing I thought of.  I really want to know what the whole chicken looks like but I am terrified to actually see it.  Recipes are on the back of the can however I don't think I will make them.  Also gotta love that Whole Chicken in a Can is located next to the pickled pigs feet.

Music

Stack
Typical weekend brunch.

My other scavenger hunt entries can be found here.

Mango Smoothie

We drink a lot of lattes.  We drink a lot of Italian Sodas. I also like flavored iced tea.  So we have managed to get quite the Torani collection at our house to assist us in our home-made beverage making.

My husband got me the Torani Cookbook which has hundreds of recipes for coffees, lattes, sodas, smoothies, salsas, dressings, marinades, and desserts.  Today I made Mango Smoothies, we were not disappointed!  They was light and fruity, not overly sweet, tart, or thick.  Blueberry and Peach Melba smoothies are on my list to try next.

Straight out of Camera (SOOC) Sunday Challenge

I am adding this photo of a pretty pink blossom to SOOC Sunday at Murrieta 365.  Except for cropping, this photo has not been altered in any way.

These trees (cherry? plum?) are in bloom EVERYWHERE and are absolutely gorgeous.  I took this picture on Clayton Road in Clayton, CA, where the blooming trees line both sides of the street.
